2017 "Living History" Oflag 64 Reenactment
The Oflag 64 “Living History” Reenactment held in Szubin Poland on September 16 was a HUGE success, as anyone who attended can attest. In attendance were representatives from the US Embassy in Warsaw, Szubin’s mayor and members of Szubin’s town council, the director of MOAS (school for at risk youth), the curator of Szubin’s museum, American visitors, reenactors, and many Szubin citizens. With superb leadershp from Mariusz Winiecki and collaboration between the town of Szubin, the Szubin Museum, MOAS, the "Green Light" reenactment group, Flesz Photography, and several other groups and individuals, an extremely memorable and informative historical event took place on the grounds of the former Oflag 64 site.
The following photos will give you an idea of what transpired. They are divided into different sections that include the Arrival of American POWs, the Fake Drunk Party, the Escape of a British Aviator, Life Behind the Barbed Wire, Little Theater rehearsal for "Brother Orchid", the school schedule, the "Daily Bulletin", Open air exhibitions, Props, and David Weinstein's film crew. Miscellaneous other photos of people and happenings follow event photos. Thanks to Mieczysław Luchowski, Mirosław Rzeszowski, Winnie - the Photographer, Susanna Connaughton, and Mariusz Winiecki for outstanding photo coverage of the event. A wonderful video (in Polish) can be found on "The Oflag 64 Record" blog by Mariusz and also here.
