2016 Szubin Trip

A number of individuals and family members from the Oflag 64 Association have taken the opportunity in the past to visit Szubin Poland and the former camp site of Oflag 64, but none as an Oflag 64 group since the last visit by Kriegies and their families in the 1990s.  During the 2015 Oflag 64 Reunion held in New Orleans, there was some discussion about the deteriorating state of the remaining barrack on the site.  Due to great interest in preserving the building, it was decided that another Szubin trip would be planned for the following year.  The trip was subsequently planned and visits were made to various parts of Poland and Europe during the first two weeks of September.  The first stop was in Warsaw followed by a visit to Szubin a few days later.  There the group had a wonderful time and learned so much.  Many thanks to those who made the trip such a memorable one, including Szubin Mayor Artur Michalak and his town council, Szubin Museum Curator Kamila Czechowska, MOAS School Director Wiesław Guzinski and his son Jakub, Mariusz Winiecki and his contacts, and Krystyna Piórkowska who coordinated travels and made various arrangements.  After Szubin, the group divided and traveled to other areas, but eventually returned to Warsaw before heading back to the United States.  US Travelers included:  Pat Waters, Nancy Wyatt, Taylor McAllister, Marlene McAllister, Anne and Tom Kreutzer, Tom Cobb, Janet Ellsworth and Elodie Caldwell, all descendants of Oflag 64 Kriegies.
